GENERAL EDUCATION OFFICE
The General Education Office serves as a resource and central mechanism of the University in developing and sustaining innovative and dynamic General Education (GE) curriculum. The Office carries the function of ensuring quality design and delivery of GE courses to facilitate best learning outcomes for students. It provides administrative support to the GE Committee and GE course providers in overseeing and evaluating GE endeavours. The Office is also responsible for the provision of assistance and advice to teachers and students on academic matters. In addition, it helps, where appropriate, coordinate the University Core curriculum.
Assistant Director of General Education (PR0425/19-20)
The main duties of the Assistant Director are to support the Director of General Education in formulating and implementing GE policies and administering the GE curriculum, including reviewing and enhancing the quality of the GE programme and courses, managing funding and projects, as well as planning and delivering professional development activities. He/She will need to liaise with academic and supporting units on the development, promotion, review and quality assurance of GE, advise teachers and students when need arises, and build partnerships with community partners. He/She will also assist the Director in the day-to-day administration and supervision of staff of the Office.
The candidate should have at least five years of teaching experience at the tertiary level and evaluating students with respect to learning outcomes. A doctoral degree or a strong academic background is preferred. He/She must have a visionary outlook for and strong commitment to whole person education and interdisciplinary studies. He/She should be an effective leader and communicator who is self-motivated, forward-looking and capable of working independently. Experience in curriculum and pedagogical development in GE and programme management will be an asset.
Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
